Union Rose
When it’s time for a refresh.
Rita Hudson’s shop on SE Stark Street is the home of her own line of thoughtfully designed clothing, made right here in Portland, OR by her small but mighty team. It’s also well-known as a place to find beautifully curated jewelry, garments, and lovely sundries from local artisans.
It’s been a while since she acquired Union Rose, but this was the year a new brand identity seemed right – time for something fresh, something personal.
Solution:
Rita had been struck by a particular Craftsman-style illustration of a rose I’d created for an unrelated project, and it became clear that an artisan-inflected style was the way forward.
Think stained glass, hand-crafted typography, and a subtly sophisticated Rose-City-inspired colorway.
About a month later our efforts were rewarded with a lovely design that everyone involved could fall in love with. Signs, postcards, earring cards, candle dustcovers, stickers and other collateral soon followed.
Exterior Signs
The bold shapes and bright colors that make up the branding system make beautifully attractive exterior signage.
You can see the flexibility built into the branding system here – the asymmetrical logo works beautifully with the rose on top or to the side.
Cards, Hangtags & Stickers
The merchandizing cards and labels that aren’t printed locally are produced by Rita in-house, so it was important that the brand and logo work easily in a wide variety of applications.
I supplied variations in color, in orientation, background patterns, and a sophisticated / complementary color palette.
Brand identity guide
Sample pages from the basic brand identity guidelines. Every branding client receives one of these, along with the complete set of digital graphics for all print and online scenarios.
I supply these as online slide sets, so they can be updated with new materials as the visual brand evolves over time.
